Since 2008 Sagarmatha project supported the Shree Koldong School in Thumpakhar (Sindhupalchok district) in the North-east of Nepal, a mountainous isolated area where 6,000 people live.
The school hosts 300 children from pre-school to primary and secondary level.
Fourteen teachers are working, using modern and high standard teaching methods; some of them paid by the community.
Sagarmatha, the French NGO “Dinu Nepali”, and the local authority, sponsored a new school building in 2011. The construction, solid and with large rooms, accommodates 120 children. The building was made with strong foundation against natural disaster. It is a comfortable learning environment compared to the existing buildings, quite old and made of simple materials.
Rising levels of education and reducing school dropout rate are primary goals of Sagarmatha.
